The Ego Unmasked is intended to serve three primary audiences: Laypersons, Mental Health Professionals, and Metaphysical Practitioners.  Beyond these audiences, The Ego Unmasked is intended for everyone, as it has an intuitive appeal, represents a journey and involves a mystery.  There is something very magnetic about the word ego.  A magnetism rooted in the intuitive sense that ego represents home in your psyche.  The journey involves the process of ego awareness, management, and enhancement as you travel from ego unconsciousness to ego consciousness and eventually egospiritualistic consciousness.  The mystery involves yourself and the intrigue of both the search and finding of who you really are in your journey home.

Laypersons

Layperson’s experiencing various degrees of psychological difficulty (as most people are) who want a specific way to undertake self-improvement that speaks directly to their life.  There are tens of millions of people who are suffering from various degrees of mental illness.  These range from the normative problems of living that afflict most people to the more pathological disturbances that make life miserable to themselves and often others.  The ego is often at the core of that misery, but for different people in different ways.  This requires a book on ego that is concrete, comprehensive, and flexible.  The Ego Unmasked leaves no one out.  It is in effect a non-fiction novel based upon you and your life.  As I state early on in the book, I have at times failed to reach clients, students, and my own children.  Oftentimes, the only person who can reach you is you.  But you need to know how to do that, and that is what this book is about.  Again the universe of the mind is a very large and abstract entity where it is easy to get lost in your efforts to find yourself.

Mental Health Professionals

The mental health treatment community does not have a definitive book that teaches them about ego, and most importantly the egos of the people they are serving.  Furthermore, mental health professionals receive little if any focused , concentrated, and extended training on ego.  This is rather remarkable considering that a person’s ego lies at the center of the repair process being undertaken in counseling and psychotherapy.  Can you imagine a heart surgeon or auto mechanic being unable to have a consensual professional conversation with a colleague knowing they are talking about the same thing while discussing an important matter pertaining to their patient’s heart or a customer’s vehicle.  So why hasn’t that book been written if ego is so important?  The answer is that “ego writing” is extremely difficult and challenging.  It is a very steep mountain to climb.  It requires a unique set of characteristics and experiences in preparation for making the climb.  Being intelligent will only get you to the first plateau.  Ego is a very elusive concept to discuss and write about, particularly to do so on a concrete level, where most readers need it to be, for it to make any sense to them.  It also requires an author uniquely positioned by professional training and experiences over time as a therapist, diagnostician, educator, and consultant to “map” its patterns and nuances.  There is no substitute for having spent thousands of hours and having worked with tens of thousands of egos as a foundation for writing about ego.  The Ego Unmasked is informed by that background.  Ego writing also requires a long term faith in the concept and obsessional focus on ego, which in the author’s case has been fourteen years.  Finally, the author has been impacted by a spouse of 32 years who is a metaphysician practitioner (Dr. Linda Martin).  She has impacted my spiritual awareness and helped to shape the message of egospiritualism that emanates from The Ego Unmasked.  It is the unique combination of these ingredients that has allowed the author to make the climb and has resulted in The Ego Unmasked which stands alone.

Metaphysical Practitioners

A primary goal of the professional metaphysician is to foster a deepening of your spiritual consciousness as well as that of the people you serve.  You have often encountered resistance and/or regression in your client’s spiritual development which has occurred as a result of the ego unconsciousness they are experiencing and living.  This darkness and masking is a powerful force that is working against your efforts.  The Ego Unmasked is intended to confront this force with ego consciousness and ultimately a balanced ego so that your client’s Ego Self can become via awareness, management and enhancement, her friend and ultimately merge with her “Divine Self” where anything and everything that is good will be possible.  This is the essence of egospiritualism.  The Ego Unmasked is also intended to assist you with better knowing and tuning into the unique, unhealthy, egoistic energy that your client is living and experiencing.  Your familiarity with an array of ego concepts and processes discussed in The Ego Unmasked will serve as the basis for this enhanced attunement.  Finally, your work may also be negatively impacted by the belief (acquired via training and readings) that ego can only be a dark, negative force that must be disowned and dissolved.  The Ego Unmasked speaks the message that an ego in balance is a wonderful, beautiful part of our humanity that complements our divine self.  An ego in balance and fully conscious opens wide the doors to a deepening of our spiritual consciousness.  As Jesus was God and man so are we.
